The Opportunity

Peterborough’s Railway Station Estate offers an exciting regeneration opportunity to provide a new and enhanced gateway station to meet growing customer demand while forging excellent city centre connections to enhance its reputation with additional visitors/spend.

Offering eighteen acres of underutilised brownfield land for mixed use development, the estate presents a once in a generation opportunity for Peterborough to attract inward investment, new homes and knowledge intensive jobs to the city

Partnership

Since 2019, Partners Network Rail, LNER, LCR, Peterborough City Council and CPCA have been collaborating to pool resources, development know-how and funding opportunities to tackle issues and unlock the opportunity.

RIBA Client Advisor Services provided:

  • Supporting partners to define the vision, strategic objectives and goals through workshops, senior level buy-in and Heads of Terms.

  • Identifying funding opportunities and collaborating to mobilise partner resources to avail of them in time (Levelling Up Fund, Combined Authority transport Fund).

  • Contributing to the production of HM Treasury compliant Transport Business Cases

  • Identifying and supporting partner design aspirations and sustainability requirements

  • Reviewing lessons learned with partners from relevant benchmark projects nationally

  • Facilitating relationships with the Local Planning Authority and procuring specialist consultant expertise to deliver objectives.

  • Feasibility Study, cost plan and programme review with risk/benefit identification.

Ambition Ready

Partners are now preparing business cases to secure funding opportunities as they emerge while also engaging with public and private sector entities to secure offers that support higher productivity and increased job levels.
